Rini's Breast Cancer Fight

Donation protected
We all have close friends in our lives. Sometimes, one of them can become especially exceptional because of what they are suddenly going through….

Rini is only 31 years old and has had 3 surgeries and 1 minor surgery in the last 16 months. The reason being, in this time period, she had 2 different occurrences of breast cancer – the 2nd one even shocked the doctors. She found the small lump herself and checks herself diligently, because she inherited the BRCA gene from her Mother, who also survived breast cancer twice (once at age 33 and again just 4 years ago, this time alone as a single mom, but emerged stronger than ever).

The recurrence was a shock and highly unexpected for Rini, leaving her overwhelmed and unprepared. Yet we also see how strong and brave she is. Despite finding out she had breast cancer a 2nd time, she has been more concerned about others going through hard times as well. Even with what Rini is going through, she often asks her Mother for advice on how to be a better friend and person, so that she can help others. That is how she is – selfless and compassionate. She has a lot of support from her Mother, siblings, and friends, but it is her faith that keeps her standing and to not give up. She trusts that our heavenly Father will keep giving her the strength she needs to get through this.

We also know that she has been striving to finish college (unfortunately she had to drop out again because of the surgeries and treatment) and has been trying to save up for school expenses so she can focus on her education. She loves her job and coworkers, and works hard as a server at Indo Restaurant and Lounge. But she has had to take 9 months, in total, off from work to recover (6 months total of recovery for her 3 surgeries and these next 3 months for her upcoming chemo treatment). Her medical insurance is through the current CA Affordable Care Act -- with help from her mother. Her copays, deductibles, and out of pocket costs have become more of a burden now – she still has some bills from her first 2 surgeries.

It was also recommended she freezes her eggs prior to her chemo treatment (chemo can cause infertility), but unfortunately that is not covered by her insurance. She must wait until her fertility preservation is complete, before she can start her chemotherapy. It was also highly recommended by her oncologist to have her ovaries removed within the next 3-4 years because with the BRCA gene, she is also high risk for ovarian cancer as well.

Her Mother has been trying to help her with these out of pocket expenses and medical bills, but now her Mother is unsure about her own employment status – due to some recent layoffs in her company. It is time to try and help her financially – along with our continued emotional and mental support, because by far, the emotional and mental struggles this horrible disease inflicts, has been the toughest part for Rini.
