Road To Recovery

It all started about a month ago when my sister (Bianca) gathered us all together for a family meeting.  We grilled out and talked alot and then she passed everyone their own personal boxes.  Inside my box was a baby shirt that said "We are excited to announce you're going to be an Uncle and God Father March 2018!"  My family was very heavy with happiness and excitment for my brother-in-law Alejo and my sister.

On the following Monday Bianca had a gynecologist appointment to determine exactly how far along she was with the baby.  Unfortunately, they told her that she was going to have a miscarraige when they did the sonogram because they could not see the embryo in the sack.  Everyone was really upset that this happened and tried to find ways to comfort my sister so, we took a weekend trip to Miami to take her attention away from the bad news.

We returned from Miami and Bianca had another visit to the gynecologist office just to find out that she was infact still pregnant they just did not see the baby the first time.   She gathered the family together again to explain the great news in relief.  Two weeks went by and it was time to see the doctor who once again came with the terrible results of a miscarraige and it was serious this time.

This roller coaster of emotions weighed very heavy on everyone only to get worse.  Bianca told us that for about two weeks her hands and feet were tingling  and she thought it was due to her being prenant.  Our mother told her that was not normal and she should get it checked out if it continued.    Another week went by and Bianca was working from home taking medicine trying to get through the miscarraige.  We went out to lunch one day after I got off work and she was having difficulties walking.  When we returned from lunch I was walking behind her up the stairs of her apartment and she fell backwards.  Thankfully I was there to catch her before it turned out tragic.

At that point we decided to take her to the ER for medical attention because things were obviously not right.  They did an MRI and CT scan and told her that she just has bad anxiety from stress and psychological  trauma from the miscarraige.  Bianca continued to get worse while taking the medicine the hospital prescribed for the miscarraige to the point she could not walk on her own anymore.  

I got off work Friday 8/11 and decided to visit my sister and see how things were going now that we knew the issue.  She told me that she was in a lot of pain and that she had fallen down earlier in the day.  Bianca could not speak to me without losing breath within 5 seconds and at that moment I knew it was not a psychological issue and pushed for her to go back to the hospital ASAP.

Luckily she listened and returned to the hospital to get more tests done.  They gave her morphine for the pain and put wraps on her legs to ensure she does not get blood clots in her legs.  Yesterday, 8/15 they did a Spinal Tap to better figure out what was going on with her as she is incapable of walking or talking much which brings us to today.

After weeks of wondering what the issue was the results from the Spinal Tap came in and she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (a condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves) and in the process of treatment and physical therapy.  The treatment and therapy is a total of 2 more weeks in the hospital and very expensive.  Any donation would be a great blessing and appreciated more than you will ever know.
