Please Help My Houston Students!

My name is Brittany Bennett and I moved to Houston (from Washington, DC) four years ago. I am a third-grade teacher at Peck Elementary School here in Houston. Hurricane Harvey has finally moved on, and we will (hopefully) be back in school next week.  The parents I was able to get in contact with said that their families are safe. I drove to my school yesterday, and the building is intact! I was not able to get a close look because the gates were locked. The houses surrounding the school suffered varying degrees of damage, but my main concern is that one of the apartment complexes that houses many of my students suffered severe damage.  I am not sure about the other schools in the neighborhood, but if any were destroyed, we will likely be taking in students from other schools (or districts). When students arrive on their first day of school, I would like to provide any essentials needed (food and clothing) along with school supplies in order to reduce the burden on families. The cost of purchasing everything on a teacher's back-to-school list (including uniforms, haircuts, etc.) typically costs around $100. For a family recovering from a natural disaster like Harvey, $100 is a tremendous amount. With the funds provided, I will purchase school supplies for the beginning of the school year along with clothing, uniforms, and food for students and their families. Providing these essentials would normally fall on the shoulders of teachers and administrators, but under these extenuating circumstances, I am asking for your help.
