Lola Bear's Spinal Surgery

I never thought I'd make one of these. But here it is.Saturday afternoon after a walk with Mickey around the block (her favorite thing besides licking everything), she started becoming whiny (normal when she wants attention/affection). She seemed otherwise normal and excited. Brett went to scoot her closer to him on the couch and she yelpled (never does). Then she came over to me and yelped twice when I touched her stomach/back. Then we all went to my house for my dad's bday dinner and brought the pups. Lola was disinterested in eating/her treat/playing and not letting me roll her to rub her belly and just being generally weird. Still walking though.While my dad and brett went to celebrate dad's bday/watch the fight at a party, my mom and I took Lola to LeadER veterinary hospital and we were there from about 9:20pm til 11:30pm or so. The diagnosis was a slight bulging disc, and she was given a high dose pain reliever or muscle relaxer that left her totally out of it, but we were told to give her the prescribed pain meds and anti-inflammatory meds and the pain should be good in a week or so. If it wasn't better to see our regular vet.She slept at my house, away from hyper Mickey and under my close eye.Sunday morning she was lethargic and not giving kisses or going to her food/water bowl. But she was eating fine by hand and I was managing to give her water with my hand too.She didn't want to walk much but finally came with me for a potty walk. Sunday afternoon we went back to my parents to hang and watch GOT. Lola was constantly uncomfortable and I noticed her legs were slipping a little. She laid with us and before I left she was not interested in walking so my dad said we would go to banfield first thing before they opened this morning as a walk-in.We brought her in, told us to go home while they did blood work and X-ray.They called us sooner than expected to come back and discuss X-ray. Their recommendation was visit animal neurologist immediately. So we drove to Miami. Banfield Doc said if you can afford surgery, it's nearly 100% recovery. Otherwise they can give steroids and wait 3+ weeks and it may get better. His optimism was her blood work was good and she was reacting to pain tests in her hind legs.45 mins later we were at the Neurologist in Miami. At this point her pain reaction (strong pinching of the toes and tail) was none.They gave us the basic plan.If we opt for MRI/surgery (assuming the presumption of disc degeneration was accurate), these were the odds:50% full recovery (after today's surgery, 5-7+ in-patient treatment and recovery plus likely physical therapy for a little while.40% she makes it through and is a wheelchair pup for the rest of her life, needing assistance to urinate and have bowel movements. 10% is that even with the surgery, the next 7 days are critical to seeing if the degeneration climbs up her spine, debilitating her lung and/or heart function.If that 10% occurs, we would need to say goodbye to her to humanely do what's right for her.They prioritize the spine issue 1-5.Lola went from a described 1 to a 5 in 36 hours and from a 2-3 (which has a full recovery rate of 90%) to a 5 in less than 24.She is only 5 y/o and otherwise totally healthy. I have to hope she is in the top 50% post op.If you feel compelled and are able, anything would help. But we were not going to let go of her without a fight. If you aren't able, I understand.
