My name is Micki Snow and I am starting this for the family of Ashton Akers. Kathy Akers is my very very dear friend. Her and Shane have 2 children, Ashton 4 and Jordison 2. My family and I love these 2 kiddos as if they were our own. On Friday August 18th 2017 Ashton's dad took him and his sister in for a routine check up. Upon Ashton's physical they found he had a lump in his abdomen area. They squeezed him in that day for a CT scan. After having the CT scan they were informed that he had a tumor on his kidney. They then scheduled him for a more in depth imaging scan for Monday the 21st. Thankfully they only found the 1 tumor on his kidney and nothing else. They determine this was a Wilms tumor. Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, it's the most common cancer of the kidneys in children. Wilms' tumor most often affects children ages 3 to 4 and becomes much less common after age 5. Ashton had surgery to remove his kidney on Wednesday. He is such a tough amazing little boy. He has handled everything like a champ. He even wanted to watch them take his kidney out! Ashton is still in the hospital and and things right now are up in the air as to how long he will have to be there and what the near future holds. I'm starting this to help the Akers family pay for medical expenses and missed days of work and travel they will have ahead of them. The Akers family is truly a wonderful family. Kat and Shane are amazing parents and are not only very active in their kids lives but also in our community. I can not express how much I love this family and little Ashton.
