Christian Vazquez Memorial Fund

Donation protected
Originally this fund was set up to help pay for Chris's cancer treatment. On December 17, 2013 Christian lost his battle with cancer. Our focus has now shifted and any donations will be to help with any unforeseen expenses that may arise as well as any needs his young children may have.

Thank You.

This was his journey...

(Prior to his passing)
Christian is a 39 year old father of five. He and his wife Jocelyn have three beautiful children all under the age of 6. His two teenage children, a daughter and a son currently reside in Arizona with their mother. Here is a brief summary of Christian's journey thus far....

Towards the end of 2009 Christian was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tongue. He had small tumor on the side of his tongue which prompted doctors to perform a minimal tongue resection that soon followed with both chemo and radiation treatments. After months of treatment he began to feel better and was considered to be in remission. All was well for about 2 years or so...Last year in 2012 Christian began to feel ill again and started having discomfort in his mouth as he had before. Him and his wife decided to see a doctor to figure out whether or not the cancer had came back. After test were performed the doctor said that no tumor was visible but that it could perhaps be dead cancer cells that were still there from his last diagnosis. He proceeded to recommend radiation at which point Christian complied. At the beginning of this year Christian stopped the radiation treatment and was well into recovery only to find himself feeling ill once again. He goes back to his oncologist and finishes his second round of radiation treatments.

By June he starts feeling ill once again and is now being taken over by excruciating pain and swelling of his tongue and chin. He is immediately rushed to the local hospital and is told he had an infection and possibly an allergic reaction. By now Christian's pain has been so debilitating that he could no longer control it without the help of medical narcotics. The swelling has now become the number one concern because his breathing has been compromised.

Christian has been in ICU for a couple of weeks now. Recent test confirm that his cancer has come back more aggressive than before. He now has a metatastic tumor that has spread from his tongue to the left side of his neck and his cheek. Doctors plan of action is to do a full glossectomy which is a very involved surgical removal of his entire tongue, his jaw, inside of his cheek and possibly his voice box. He currently has a PEG tube for feeding and he had a tracheotomy done to assist him with breathing.

By the good grace from God, Christian is stable and responsive. Though he may not utter a word now he finds a way to communicate with those around him. The family is seeking an alternative treatment that can potentially help him without having to undergo this life changing surgery. The thought of Christian never being able to utter the words "I love you" to his wife and children is heartbreaking, but so is not being able to financially cover his cancer treatment that can possibly save his life.
