Trans Resiliency Fund

Organized and managed on unceded Coast Salish territory in so-called Vancouver, Canada, the Trans Resiliency Fund (TRF) is a general emergency fund for low-income trans folks to access. Funds are received from cis and/or financially privileged folks and is managed by volunteer organizers of the Coalition Against Trans Antagonism.
The TRF was formed in November 2019 in an effort to offer material support for trans people, especially trans women and trans femmes of colour, in our local communities and beyond. COVID-19 has since dramatically impacted the lives of trans people worldwide and, as a result, our fund has now been quickly used up.
Since promoting the fund on March 28th, 2020, we've received over 75 applications from around the world. We're currently working on distributing $4,000 to partially fulfill requests made by 26 people, offering micro-grants between $100 - $200.
We are fundraising in an effort to be able to top-up and/or partially fulfill remaining requests as well as future applications. We are also including the cost of fees to send money across borders for each transaction and exchange rates (unfortunately now is a terrible time to exchange currencies - it takes ~$150 CAD to send someone $100 USD).
Folks have been making requests to cover rent, groceries, hormones, medication, cleaning supplies, and/or to care for children. If we were to fulfill each person's request in its entirety, it would amount to over $75,000.
Folks are invited to list general resources they need access to, and we are working on reaching out throughout our networks to help acquire what is needed. If there are needs that fit into government-sponsored funding, resources, or a fund better resourced than the Trans Resiliency Fund, we will be redirecting folks and can support in their application processes.
Funds will prioritize trans women and trans femmes who are:
- living in a developing country
- Black, Indigenous, and/or people of colour
- sex workers/engaged in sex economies
- low-income
- disabled and/or immuno-compromised
- undocumented
Folks who are outside of the above categories may receive financial support depending on what remains, and will be re-directed to alternative resources.
