Wendy's Fight

Donation protected

Who is Wendy?
Wendy is an artist, teacher, and cancer patient living in South Carolina. She is also a mother to our daughter, Katherine (and our rather excitable dog, Fred), and a much loved friend to many of you. To me, she is my wife and the single greatest blessing I have ever known.

What is Wendy like?
One time, Wendy had to undergo two operations at once with two surgical teams. I waited in the hospital lobby anxiously. After a few hours, an OR nurse called to tell me about her progress. Since the procedure had run longer than anticipated, I must have sounded worried when I asked how she was doing. The nurse told me, "oh, she is doing great, in fact, she has been very entertaining!" It is this spontaneity, sense of humor, and joy that comes to mind when we think of Wendy.

What's Happened to Wendy?
Wendy was rushed to the emergency room in pain and tears one night. The doctors quickly determined she would need surgery to remove a large kidney stone. However, this is when her doctors discovered that she also has cancer (non-Hodgkin's lymphoma). While her condition is not curable, it is treatable and she has aggressively fought back against cancer. Wendy has undergone multiple operations, biopsies, scans, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.

This battle has been exhausting at times, painful, and costly. While insurance helps, the extremely high cost of treatment has grown. The next step for Wendy will be a stem cell transplant. This will require a team of specialists and trave
l out of town for treatment and months in a hospital far from home. This procedure will provide a long-term remission.

How to Help
We are seeking funds to help pay Wendy's medical expenses and fund a stem cell transplant. In the coming weeks after the first of the year, Wendy will have a routine procedure to care for her chemotherapy port, a sleep study, blood tests, and a CAT scan to monitor her lymphoma. The cumulative costs of treatment and care are enormous. We are asking for help to offset these debts. We know it is a difficult time for many people. Here is how you can help:
