Lily was born on January 17, 2014 at Manchester Memorial Hospital and was immediately transferred to Hartford Hospital NICU unit. She has had a difficult first few months of her life with a tracheotomy performed when she was only a few weeks old. She was then transferred to the Connecticut Children's Hospital PICU where they could perform emergency surgery when necessary as she has had numerous episodes where the trachea becomes blocked.
Lily was born with VACTERAL Association (several birth defects) which will require surgery. Lily has subloglottic and tracheal stenosis with a critical airway. This means that Lily needs a tracheostomy (breathing tube in her neck) and ventilator to help her breathe. Portions of her respiratory tract are extremely narrow and if her airways become blocked, this easily can be life threatening. Lily also has a large hole in her heart that will require surgery but Lily's critical airway is her main medical issue at the moment. Right now, we are waiting for the appropriate time (she needs to gain weight) for her airway and heart to be repaired. Since her condition is rare, very few children's hospitals perform the surgery needed for her airway. Two of these hospitals that can provide this surgical treatment are located in
Chicago and Delaware. Right now, it looks as though Lily will be airlifted to the Delaware hospital in the very near future. At a later date, she will also have surgery to repair a tethered spinal cord and other reconstructive surgery.
We are hoping to raise money to help with costs associated with Lily's surgery; the travel to Delaware and living expenses her parents will need to be with her at the hospital in Delaware. Although Chris and Jessica plan on driving to Delaware and will be staying at a local charity house, the costs of traveling and living for Lily's parents is an added stress and any donation would be most appreciated. Let's help Lily and her family be together and take a little stress from them by donating and praying for this little Lily-Lynn.
