Airman Son Found In Stairwell.

Son Austin Conner recently joined the US Air Force (Security Forces) and graduated Basic Training and is now finishing up his Military Occupation Training. He has been super excited about Graduation on Aug 21st and that's when it's official gets his Beret, Badge, Orders for Japan and his rank of Airman 1st Class begins, his uniform having rank sewn on and everything is tip top. Saturday his mom and dad were expecting him to video call sometime throughout the day. Mom being very touchy about him being 1400 miles away from her started texting him and after a couple hours of him not texting her back she started texting repeatedly to get him to text but nothing... All the sudden she gets a text from him 'Going into surgery someone from the hospital will be calling you". As you can imagine mom panic sets in because Austin does not and will not joke around like that to upset her so she knew it was bad, not being able to hold it back lost all composure completely as expected Dad was called and could tell the something bad was happening ask what was wrong and she told him and he now has reached the edge of his composure but held it. Then all the questions hit who at hospital is supposed to call, what time, what is wrong, surgery for what, Who can we call to get answers that were backing up fast, his Unit! It's Saturday evening after 6pm so most all would be done for the day and gone. Austin had just changed building and numbers and everything but had not contacted either mom or Dad with the new information and anyone knowing the military no numbers was going to cause a delay. Dad is a Disabled Veteran he served 17+ years in Ohio Army National Guard he starts thinking back about administration parts of Headquarters and different support offices or groups and started searching for Phone #'s for contacting anyone that could assist them in finding out about Austin. They are doing the same thing on mom's side searching for hospital #'s. After 2 hours of calling everywhere they finally found the hospital that Austin was in. After they confirmed that Austin was there and that he was in ICU and they would relay a message to the Dr/Surgeon to contact the parents and that he would contact once he was out of surgery. No more information was given to the mom because Austin is 21 and with that little bit of information the panic and anxiety went through the roof. 1-2 hours later the Dr finally called Mom and let her know that he had to rush Austin into emergency surgery to find the cause of so much pain. He found that Austin has ulcers in his intestines keeping his bowels from moving and also found a hole and all that had been draining into the body cavity and he closed that and once he was done with the surgery he called. He explained that the hole is unheard of for anyone at the age of 21 or even twice his age and that with the situation he is looking into it because he was way too young for that to happen. He gave her a number to call for any of her questions to give them a couple hours to get it all into the system. While she was waiting to call the # the Dr gave her Austin Face Timed her. He let her know that the Dr was in and talked to him about stuff and he go permission to use his phone to call his mom because the short text he left her as he was going into surgery hours ago. Getting more information about the situation throughout the night and later next day face timing the seriousness of the the whole situation with his stomach could take 6-8 weeks to heal enough to start exercising to get fit for duty. Are they going to keep him in the hospital to recover, are they going to send him home for the 6-8 weeks on convelescant leave to heal or are they going to put him in a room on the ground floor with no steps to go up or down or are they going to discharge him after all the time work & determination to complete this stage of training Graduate and have full rights to state he's an Airman 1st Class and focus on doing the best possible at his job. Protecting fellow soldiers and performing security measures being a Police Officer has been a step to being an FBI agent, US Martial or Secret Service. Since seeing a little of what the Air Force has to offer as a career, the top he can be there may be his new focus. After hearing that he could be sent home discharged out of military he has really been in a panic making everything else worse physically. He is needing his parents at this time his future could be torn down while in the hospital focusing on healing and getting fit to return to duty. Dad being a Disabled Veteran has limited income and can not persue other employment due to the medical condition and injury while on active duty he has already paid his bills for the month and Mom is a full time mom and still has one at home their youngest son, so now even together they could not buy one ticket let alone two from Ohio to San Antonio Tx. Not to mention food each day, motel/hotel each day, a vehicle to get back and forth to hospital and around to take care of the things that Austin is needing done military wise, and get back to airport to return back to Ohio once everything for Austin is taken care of and the medical issue has been figured out and the cost of the return tickets. They are frantically trying to put funds together to get to Lackland Air Force Base where Austin is at. They are asking for support a Disabled Veteran who has already served, a Son who is serving now and a frantic mother who are trying to get to their Son. Mom and Dad want to thank each and every person that are praying for Austin it means so much to us and especially to Austin who never realized how many people do actually care about him and it makes him want to get back out there to Graduate and get out there protecting everyone... This trip is looking to start at 3-4 weeks but can go to the 6-8 week period of his recovery time if possible complications arise. It may not seem like much to some but this is huge to us and a little overwhelming and don't know what to do other than this. Thank you with all our hearts and our prayers are with Austin and all of you.
