This fundraiser has been set up for my amazingly strong and courageous
friend of over 30 years, Wendy Tustin.
Wendy is an former EMT, life guard, and 3rd degree black belt with an unending love for God, family, friends and the world we live in. If you ever need a friend you can count on with encouraging words you could find that in Wendy.
After a horrific and painful, year-long battle with breast cancer in 2011, costing her and her family over $7000 in out-of-pocket medical and travel expenses, she won! Unfortunately, her freedom from cancer was short. On September 6, 2013 Wendy was diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer. Once again, the fight is on!
A 2011 study by Duke University showed the average cancer patient in the US pays over $8,500 a year in out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by insurance. Besides the cost of treatment and procedures, additional expenses such as transportation costs, expensive diets or physical therapy add to the staggering bill.
What's worse is that cancer expenses often affect the financial well-being of the cancer patient and his or her family.
There is no cure for liver cancer, but Wendy is determined to stay positive and healthy within her God given power to live as long as possible. In addition to medical and transportation expenses Wendy has a few Wish items to fulfill before she leaves to meet her maker. None of this will be possible without a little help from family, friends and prayer warriors.
When I asked Wendy and David for permission to hold this fundraiser they accepted graciously with the condition that they can forward any unused funds to other families facing medical hardship.
Would you please consider donating to this cause? There is no donation to big or too small. Every dollar counts.
Other ways you can help: Prayers, housekeeping and lawn services, cards and letters of encouragement, prepared meals for the family, gas cards and Lemons:lots of lemons. This is the main ingredient in Wendy's new healthy liver diet.
