We ❤️ Adelieda

Hello,
I am here to talk to you about an amazing couple. I joined youth group when I was in the 8th grade.

Every year in youth group we would take a trip in the summer. While I was in youth group I travelled to Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Denver, Co. Little Rock Arkansas, California. These are not trips that we had to pay for. The youth group did fundraisers. Yes, we participated by selling tickets and working. Anyone who has ever worked a fundraiser knows that there is so much more to them than selling tickets and working a shift at the event. Who bought the groceries? Who reserved the hall? Who set up the hall? Who cooked the food? Who counted the money? Who printed the tickets? Who numbered them, counted them, put them in envelopes? Who counted the money after the event? Now while all the sponsors have contributed countless hours of service, the two people I am wanting to focus on is Larry and Adel.

Have you ever been at the window when a homeless person walked up to the window and didn't have a ticket. Adeleida did not give him a plate of food free of charge, she opened her purse and bought him a plate of food. Who sold the most tickets for most of the fundraisers we had? Adeleida

More important than talking about what this amazing couple did I want to talk to you about why.

Larry always said, "The youth are not the future of the church, they are the present. If we do not minister to our youth now, there will be no future of our church."

The above mentioned trips are only the summer trips we went on. There were also trips to Searches and search closings all around the diocese, San Angelo, abiliene, sweetwater, Colorado city, fort Stockton, McCamey, and the list goes on and on.

How did we get to these towns? The sponsors drove us, the majority of the time in their own vehicles.

Other ministries that they have been a part of include parish council, church festivals (with the best games); Larry is in charge of the ushers so that youth group members may serve; retreats in addition to their involvement on the SEARCH team Larry also had a retreat team that would put on retreats for parishes around the diocese, a few more ministries are liturgical dance team, bible studies, Eucharistic ministers. Larry and Adel have never been part of the choir themselves but they have always encouraged the youth to participate.

I know that I am the person I am today because I was a part of youth group. I am so grateful for the relationship I have with my Lord and Savior and it is because these two people said yes to serving Him.

I am sure most of you are aware that Adeleida has cancer and has been going trough a very aggressive treatment. They have had to travel to Houston for treatment, tests, surgeries, and doctors appointments. Every trip, not including the cost of the medical treatment, they are having to pay for airline tickets, hotel, rental vehicle, and any meals they have while they are there. I figure each trips comes to anywhere from 2-3k per trip.

They have worked so hard both raising money and fostering the spirituality of our youth for so many years.

If you are reading this message it is probably because you know Larry and Adel. It is time for us to give back, to give a tiny bit for all that they have done for us.

If you are reading this message and you don't know Larry and Adel, it is because the person who shared this has been impacted by them. If you have ever been impacted by the person who shared this campaign, you have experienced the ripple effect of the spreading of God's goodness.

If you are anything like me you may be feeling so much gratitude for the ministry you've received but maybe not be able to give to match your gratitude. Don't worry! No amount is too small. Any amount that you can give is appreciated. Because I know the amount of people who have been impacted is so big that your $5 plus the thousand of other people's $5 will add up. AND maybe today you can give $5 today and then next month you can also give $5. This campaign will stay open.

The goal I chose to start the campaign is $100,000. The reason I chose that amount is because the youth director position is not a paid position at our parish. At other parishes, youth directors can get paid as much as $40-$45k a year. They have been in this ministry for over 30 years. So, even if we were able to give back for approximately 2 years, it comes to about the 100k.

Thank you all for taking time to read this message and contribute to this campaign. Please don't forget to like and share so we can reach as many people as possible. May God bless you all!
