What I'm raising money for:
Rosheen "Rocky/Rock" McLaughlin has led a 22 year long battle with kidney and heart failure. At age 17 he was diagnosed with a rare virus that cost him to lose life. But because it was not yet his time, God saw fit to bring him back to us, however his kidney and heart would never fully recover. Over the next 22 years, Rock would go into complete kidney failure and 8 years ago fought to get on a home dialysis program called PD (Peritoneal Dialysis) that would allow him to improve his quality of life. Almost two years ago, he was told that his life on PD was coming to a close because of several complications.
As one chapter drew to a close, another chapter began, and he was offered the opportunity to become a pioneer in Home Hemo Dialysis. The transition was not always smooth, but through it all he remained positive and kept his faith in the forefront. Six months after going on Home Hemo, he was advised that a heart pump (LVAD) was needed, as his heart production was decreasing. Rock was nervous, and it was not an easy road, but in the end, he continued to be led by faith and the knowledge that he would one day soon close this chapter in his life.
Last Saturday, in a miraculous series of events Rock received a call that would change his life forever. A family saw him fit to be the recipient of their passing sons heart and kidney.
While Rock's journey is just beginning, we are beyond grateful for the gift of life that was given to him, and he does not now nor ever take any of his blessings for granted. Rock walks in faith and knows that God will continue to guide his journey as he has been.
The money we're looking to raise will be used to ensure the coverage of Post Transplant life coverage, such as housing (he will have to temporarily relocate to San Francisco), meds and transportation, none of which are covered by insurance.
