Medical Support for Jennifer

On May 10, 2018, Jennifer Reitsman was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called Primary Central Nervous System (CNS) Lymphoma. According to her physicians, this is a rare form of lymphoma affecting approximately 1% of the population. CNS Lymphoma affects the spinal fluid, the eyes, and in Jennifer‘s case, the brain. Jennifer‘s cancer was found in the area of the brain that affected her communication, understanding, speech, and memory. As you might imagine, this was extremely frightening, especially for someone who is very rarely ill. Jennifer loves music and literature and was terrified that she would lose her ability to comprehend the things she loved the most.

Treatment for CNS lymphoma is a high dose chemotherapy that requires hospitalization during treatment. Although expected to complete five rounds of this chemo, Jennifer's MRI showed that the lesion in her brain was gone after just four rounds, earning her the title of “strong like bull”.

Now, Jennifer's doctors feel that her best chance of survival and keeping her cancer in remission is to go through a stem cell transplant. Jennifer is ready to face this treatment head-on; however, cancer is not the only thing she is battling.

Jennifer has not been able to work since February of this year in her position as an executive legal secretary. Not only is she is struggling financially, Jennifer is certain to encounter many more financial burdens in the near future with the impending stem cell transplant.
