I have been studying and working in the fashion industry for 10years now but I have always wanted to start my own label. I have a Diploma in Fashion Design and Textiles and a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in fashion and I worked for a NZ owned and operated fashion label for 3 years. I have now moved to Melbourne and I’ve decided to start my own fashion label.
My plan is to create gorgeous, women's garments using a range of organic, recycled, eco-friendly, and sustainable materials. From the fabric to the thread, from the back neck labels to the screen printing ink, I want it all to be in line with the philosophy of sustainability.
My style is clean and sophisticated with a little bit of fun thrown in. My clothes will be timeless in design as they will last longer than fast fashion garments. And just because the designs are Eco friendly doesn’t mean that they can’t be high end, stylish fashion.
I have also designed tote bags made with recycled and organic materials that can easily roll up to pop in your pocket or purse for everyday use or when you go to the supermarket.
I believe in 100% transparency. I will list all of my suppliers on my website, for my customers to research if they wish, and also to help connect others in the industry with an interest in sustainability. I have found it difficult to source sustainable materials, and I would like to help to change that.
To begin with, I will be designing, sewing, screen-printing, and running the business with my own two hands. But as the business grows I plan to employ others, and keep production onshore! Either in Australia or NZ (where I am from).
Fashion with a conscience might be a more expensive way of life but a really important choice that the lucky ones can make!
Please help me realise my lifelong dream of being a fashion designer, and support the trend towards a more sustainable fashion industry!
