Save Phoenix

Hi my name is Jennifer Doherty and I am a veterinary technician at Brick Town Veterinary Hospital. I have a special interest in baby animals born with cleft palates and Phoenix is the fourth animal with a cleft palate that has been brought into my life. Unfortunately, his is the most severe. Phoenix is 12 days old and has a Y shaped cleft palate. I have consulted with Dr. John Lewis at North Star Vet and he said that there is a possibility of up to 3 procedures. The first procedure will be to close the roof of the mouth. He stated that sometimes this is a step process depending on how large the hole is. Our hope is that it will close up much more than it is at this moment. The second procedure will be mostly dental related. The potential third procedure would be to close the defect in the front of the face if it poses an issue. Phoenix will require tube feeding for the first four months of his life possibly longer. Phoenix will also need a consult with a surgeon to possibly open his nares. His nose is also very deformed. The sides of his nostrils have formed inside of his nose. His first appointment is in 8 weeks for a surgical consult. We will know more then. I doubt there will be funds left over or unused but if by chance they are, these funds will go right back into saving more animals.
