Sweet Woody Needed ER Spinal Surgery

Donation protected
Hello friends, friends-of-friends, and thoughtful strangers!

The diagnosis dreaded by every dachshund owner officially has happened to my baby, Woody. IVDD. My sweet little boy went into surgery this morning to remove a particularly menacing (herniated) intervertebral disc that was compressing his spinal cord and causing complete paralysis in his back legs.

Our kind and warm, (and all-around fantastic) neurologist, Dr. Dillard (of Veterinary Neurology Clinic in Tustin, CA) said that there is a 95%(+) success rate for dogs in Woody's current state, so I am feeling optimistic... and overwhelmed.

The final cost of the surgery will be between $6,500 and $7,500. I opened a special veterinary emergency credit card to make this possible for Woody, but as a graduate student and waitress with student loans, this bill amounts to a financial nightmare. So I ask you, kind people of Instagram, dog owners and animal lovers, will you please help me? A donation of five dollars will make a world of difference. Even if you are not able to donate, kind words, advice, and virtual kisses are deeply (and equally!) appreciated. Anything and everything helps. Feel free to drop me a line and say hi @ [email redacted] or else reach out to me on instagram at @heytheak or @goodboywoody. <3

If you're a new acquaintance of ours, you can follow his second-chance story on Instagram, (@goodboywoody), from his adoption in 2013 to today. I first laid eyes on my gorgeous boy at a pet adoption fair, freshly rescued from a neglect situation in Arkansas. I held him in my arms and he tucked his pointy little head into the crook of my elbow. I fell in love with him in that instant, and took him home the next day. He has been my loving companion since the day we met, and there is nothing that I wouldn't do to ensure his safety and happiness. This is a bump in the road for us, but I know we'll get through it with the help and support of our friends and family.

As a goodwill gesture towards the universe, and in the spirit of "it takes a village", I will be donating plasma and blood at City of Hope Cancer Hospital for every month that this campaign is running, as I know that hardship affects us all, and in different ways.

Your collective support has been so important to us throughout this terrifying ordeal. Truly, every amount is appreciated and helpful. Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to that post-op call from the doc, which should come in a couple of hours. I'll keep you guys updated. ❤️
