Makaylas Fight Against Cancer

Makayla is 14 years old and in May 2017 after months of visiting the doctor on a regular basis with questions as to why Makayla was sick, Makayla and her parents got devastating news that Makayla was suffering from a rare form of kidney cancer (Stage 4 Renal Medullary Carcinoma). This rare form of cancer is often found in individuals who carry the sickle cell trait. Makayla had her kidney removed and has most recently been sent home today after a 4 week hospital stay for complications with swelling in her abdomen, a c diff infection and some other issues (the cancer is also in the lymphnodes of her abdominal area). Makayla has been very strong and is determined to beat this cancer. My sister Jessica (Makaylas mother) is an RN and has been very dedicated to her care. My sister Jessica and Makaylas father, Chuckie have been by Makaylas side every single day which means they have missed out on a lot of work and income. They also have two other children. Makayla will be requiring a lot of support while she is at home recovering and fighting this cancer. She will hopefully be starting the clinical trial Keytruda soon which looks promising. If you are able to help support Makayla and my sisters family while they take time off work to care for her it is greatly appreciated.
