Chris Flowers Fundraiser

Welcome to Chris Flowers fundraising page.

Chris Flowers is a friend whom I met through break-dancing around 2002. Recently he went through a life changing experience, at the age of 29, which typically happens to people who are much older.

The following is a quick summary of what Chris had to endure:

On Sunday June 23rd while at his apartment with his girlfriend, Chris had a seizure and collapsed. His girlfriend called 911 and he was taken to Western Medical's ER in Santa Ana. He spent about 3 hrs there. The Doctor misdiagnosed him, told him to his face, "You're faking what's happening." And on the medical records for the diagnosis the doctor wrote down, "A conversion disorder and pseudo-seizure. Seek psychiatric evaluation." He was discharged from the hospital with nothing resolved.

The next day, June 24th, he went to St. Jude's ER. After an MRI doctors found a blood clot and swelling on the left side of his brain. He was admitted to the hospital's ICU and soon received a battery of tests. After a cerebral angiogram on July 1st, doctors said there were signs that Chris had definitely suffered a stroke, and the blood clotting was what caused the seizure.

The same week he had been admitted to the hospital he developed a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs). This was discovered after they noticed shortness of breath, a high heart rate, and he also kept coughing up blood. He was immediately put on blood thinning medication to break up the clots.

He spent about 2 weeks after that in recovery and rehab. Finally, discharged on July 16th and since has continued out patient rehab.

Although there was a happy ending, thanks to the great doctors at St. Jude, Chris still faces an even bigger challenge; medical bills!

Unfortunately, at the time of the incident Chris was unemployed and had no health insurance; therefore, between all the members of our dancing crew, we decided we'd try various means to raise funds to help cover some costs.

I will be participating in the 2013 Long Beach Half Marathon, on October 13th to raise funds, hence this page.

In the near future, in conjunction with friends, we will be holding a break-dancing event to help raise additional funds. Once details become available I shall pass them around.

Any contribution you can make, big or small, would be of tremendous help and will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
