Road to recovery

In late December of 2012 our family was expecting our 2nd child, the first ultrasound appointment to the doctor in April 2013 was a very depressing one. We lost our baby at 9wks. After undergoing a D&C procedure the pathology report came back with even more depressing news. We are the "lucky" 1 out of 1,000 in the pregnancy population to have a Molar Pregnancy. Molar pregnancies can turn into a more aggressive disease called Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia, basically a uterine tumor, which is what happened to me. Within less than a week I under went multiple tests and diagnostics to determine the severity of the situation. Full abdominal Ultrasounds, CT scan, and multiple blood tests to which I had three doctors working vigilantly so that treatment could be begin immediately. After the doctors received all of the reports and results of the testing our options were a hysterectomy at the age of 31, never bare children ever, and years of hormone therapy OR go through chemotherapy. Since our family was trying for another child we opted for the chemotherapy. I began chemotherapy at the end of April with a single dose of methotrexate weekly. The single dose eventually became unresponsive. The next round we went with a more aggressive approach as the condition had now turned into "persistent gestational trophoblastic neoplasia". The chemotherapy that I am receiving is called EMA-CO, I have a port (internal catheter) that has been placed surgically in my chest to get weekly infusions, one of them lasting 14hrs. I lost all my hair and had a difficult time eating (loss of taste buds, ulcers...yuck), but other than that remained in good spirits and in fairly good condition. I am also anemic needing to receive a type of white blood cell/ bone marrow increaser called Neupogen every week for a period of 3-5 days depending on my weekly blood counts. The current chemotherapy has responded well but when all of this started I hadn't received insurance yet from my new job. Insurance doesn't cover procedures before coverage so now I'm having a hard time still trying to work full-time and pay bills that I still owe while undergoing treatment. Dominick our 4yr son wants to be a big brother and talks about it all the time, help us make all of our dreams come true! It will be a long journey for us. Even once I have completed chemotherapy it will be 6 months to 1yr before we can try again. Ro 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good for those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose". God is helping to heal me and with your loving and generous donations will help with past due medical bills that have become quite a burden on our family as well as treatments that are not covered by insurance. Any extra donations will be donated to our church, which has been helping us as much as they can in our time of need, as well as help raise awareness and create support for other women who also have this rare gestational disease.
