Help little Shaker boy!

This is Shaker. If you have met him, you love him. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but everybody falls for my little heartbreaker when they meet him!)


He has a neurological disorder, it's called Cerebellar Hypoplasia.

If you have met him, you know he shakes and jerks around and often has problems walking straight. First you feel sorry for him. Then you see how he gets around, always smiling, always getting back up when he falls.. And all you can do is smile back. Shake is doing really well with what he was given to work with and doesn't let it hold him back.



Shaker also has seizures. Within the last couple months, he has gone quickly from 1-2 seizures a month to 1 a week, to 1-2 almost daily. These seizures have also gotten longer and are much past the length of brain damage causing. He now needs to be on seizure medication. It was over 200 dollars to just do the testing to see if he was healthy enough to put on meds. (Phenobarbital is rough on a dog's liver and can damage it if not healthy enough to handle the medication.)

He has been on Phenobarbital for one week now. He is getting used to it and has only had one seizure, and it was very short! But they need to run more tests to see if the meds are doing well in his system and not harming him. We can't bypass these, if they are helping him they are helping him alot.. but if they are damaging him at all it could be fatal and we need to remove him from Pheno and look into other options. These tests are supposed to be done 3 weeks after starting the meds and are more expensive than the tests he initially had to make sure he can take the meds. It is called a Phenobarbital Panel test and is just over three hundred dollars. My total on here is listed as $350 to cover his next month of meds, if possible. These prices are already lowered. The doctor at this vet (Raleigh Hills VCA Emergency Veterinary), Dr. Yuko is the one who rescued Shaker and he is known throughout the whole place. They are trying to work with me as much as they can to see him succeed.


This all happened really fast and is right in the middle of me getting back on my feet. I have been without a job and home for a while and I just nailed down both of those things this week. I am not used to having to ask for help with things like this, but I take owning my animals seriously and will put them above all else, even pride.
