Crush

On July 18th, 2017 we unexpectedly and devastatingly had to put our sweet precious dog Crush to sleep after only 6 years of life. It all started when he's back right leg became noticeably weak. After several trips to the vet he was given some anti-inflammatories and referred to a specialist. It was determine Crush would need an MRI (a $2,000 process) in which they discovered Crush had meningitis, a supposedly rare and hard to get condition, that was causing his legs to go numb. During the MRI, a tumor was also found on the back of his brain. A tumor in which the doctor said," its in a good spot and can be easily removed." It was expected that Crush would go into surgery and spend the next few weeks recovering. Instead, half way through the surgery the doctor called and stated Crush was losing a lot of blood due to the nature of the tumor and requested permission for blood transfusions to be approved. We naturally said yes only to receive another phone call 1 hour later stating the tumor was much worst than originally thought and that we needed to go speak with the doctor. Upon arrival we were informed that Crush was losing too much blood and we had two options. Option A: the doctor would stop the surgery, patch up the incision and send Crush home to live out the last "2 months at best." When I asked if Crush would be in any pain from the tumor the doctor stated he was unsure of that. Option B was to aggressively attempt to remove the tumor to limit the amount of blood loss however, the doctor stated Crush had a 80% chance of death with this option. As you can imagine, this was not at all the way we thought this day was going to take place. We were mentally unprepared to lose a member of our family and were now faced with deciding, essentially, how our sweet little boy was going to die. For everyone who knew the kind of dog Crush was, we felt it was best to give him one last fighting chance. We told the Doctor to remove the tumor. Approximately 15 minutes later we were told the doctor stopped the surgery because the tumor was attached to Crush's brain stem and could not be removed without killing him. We made the hardest decision that anyone who has lost a family pet as had to make. After spending a brief time with Crush, who was unconscious and laying on the operating table, the doctor administered the dosage and we held our hands on Crush while he took his last breath. The total cost for the operation was just over $5,000. Crush was only 6 years old. We are in the process of signing papers for a house (which we specifically chose for Crush due to the size of the backyard) and have a baby on the way. All of which Crush was suppose to be a part of. Needless to say, we are heartbroken, devastated and the house is quiet without him now. Everyone who ever met him can vouch he was one of a kind and he left his paw prints on everyone's heart he met. This gofundme was created in hopes of attempting to alleviate the medical bills received from trying to save his life. At the very least, we ask everyone share this people who too call their dogs family members.
