Zos Road To Recovery

Donation protected
Zo has been diagnosed with a very serious auto immune disease known as GME Granulomatous meningoencephalitis , basically his brain is very inflamed causing him to have many neurological issues. This started a few weeks back as he initially had a seizure for the first time that we saw. This was frightening and I rushed him into the vet and as they did all his blood work they found it was perfect and told me it may be idiopathic and to just log if it occurs again. At this point I was being hopeful but over the course of just a few weeks he has declined to the point he went from a spunky energetic dog full of life to a very dull blank little boy. He could no longer jump up on the couch and was not reacting as usual to greeting us and spent a lot of time just laying around with no life in him. Wednesday night he was trying to get on the couch so we put him up to lay with us and he was crossing over sonny and fell off. We knew this was not right and was planning to bring him right back to vet the next morning. Unfortunately he suffered a 7 minute seizure again the next morning and I brought him in and showed video of situation and all of our concerns. At this point the vet told us that there clearly was something deeper going on and to bring him to a neurologist. We followed up with the local emergency for him with a neurologist available and after many more assessments an MRI and a spinal tap we found that this is in fact what was going on and there is a lot more to continue to help our Zo that will be needed. They are treating the seizures with phenobarbital but also going to try a steroid for the inflammation on his brain. If the steroid shows no changes by tomorrow we will have to consider further treatment of an infusion for 48 hours continuous. They also need to run more tests and check the spinal fluid. This is obviously extensive medical treatment but this is also our child. We do not have kids and not everyone may understand but I will do anything I can for him. If anyone is able to help us in any little way we truly appreciate it and if anything just to say a prayer for him as not just Zo is suffering but his brother Ren is missing his partner In crime. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
