Aniya's Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hello. My name is Samantha and for the last 6 ½ weeks I have been in the hospital with my only child Aniya. I am self-employed single mother who has had the pleasure of raising my daughter for 17 awesome years.  This past February, Aniya became very ill and was admitted to the PICU. Several days after being admitted, Aniya was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Lemierre’s Syndrome.

Lemierre’s is a potentially lethal form of sore throat caused by the bacterium Fusobacterium necrophorum, a common inhabitant of the mouth. Lemierre syndrome develops most often after a sore throat has created an abscess, a crater filled with pus and bacteria near the tonsils. Deep in the abscess, bacteria like Fusobacterium necrophorum can flourish. The bacteria penetrate from the abscess into the neighboring jugular vein in the neck and forms an infected clot to form, from which bacteria are seeded throughout the body by the bloodstream. Pieces of the infected clot break off and travel to the lungs as emboli blocking branches of the pulmonary artery bringing the heart's blood to the lungs. This causes shortness of breath, chest pain and severe pneumonia. Aniya experienced all of these symptoms as well as others that almost cost her her life. It’s been extremely difficult but I have been by her side the entire time and wouldn't have it any other way.

As of today, Aniya is doing much better than when we first came the ER but the road to recovery will be a long one. Despite this bump in the road, Aniya and myself are remaining positive and are looking forward to the future.  As a result of this unexpected occurrence, I find myself in a position of needing some assistance with finances to help us get back on our feet.  By no means are we a charity case nor do I ask for handouts but it has been extremely difficult to maintain a household from the hospital with no additional income, other than mines, coming in and the savings I do have is almost obsolete.  It’s been an uphill battle with her medical insurance and they are not being compassionate or cooperative at the current moment.  It is my hope that through this GoFundme page, I can begin to put some things in order and focus solely on Aniya and her recovery.  Any size donation of support is not too small but would truly be a blessing.  I thank you in advance for your love, prayers and support during this time.
