Phillip’s Financial Hardships of Father’s Death

Donation protected
Our beloved brother Phil Schneider recently passed away at home in Arlington, Washington on November 9, 2022, after a three-year battle with cancer and COPD. Phil was a wonderful father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of those around him with kindness and laughter. Phil will be remembered for being a tremendous athlete (Football & Baseball) from his early years through college where he finished a successful career as a starting pitcher at the University of Oregon. He was also an accomplished artist, fisherman, musician, and loved music and the outdoors. Many of his unbelievably great paintings are now treasures on friends and family walls.

In his final three years, Phil’s focus and concerns were understandably centered on his everyday health battles, never-ending treatments, and the lack of energy even for daily routines. As a result, he unfortunately never completed the process to ensure his estate could be transferred without avoiding probate delays. Phil is survived only by his 27-year-old son, Phillip, who is solely responsible for covering the costs of his estate and funeral/memorial expenses. Although Phil had a Will with Phillip as the sole heir and beneficiary, Phillip soon confirmed that there were no continuing income or insurance policy benefits to immediately pay expenses, and that all Phil’s accounts and assets were frozen and could not be transferred for a certain period due to Washington State probate laws.

We are all devastated by Phil’s loss and were not prepared for the legal challenges that Phillip must endure in getting access to his estate, bank accounts, and other assets. This has created an immediate financial hardship for Phillip. From all indications, this could take a few months to sort out. The Schneider Family—Phil's brothers and sisters—are fundraising to help Phillip with these unexpected expenses. We are currently asking for support to help cover the cost of working through these hurdles including temporarily paying his monthly mortgage and bills, legal fees, as well as holding services for those that knew and loved him in both Washington and California.

Your support—whether it be monetary donations or by sending prayers—would be greatly appreciated. We want to give Phil the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes. We look forward to seeing everyone who knew and loved Phil at his Celebration of Life (updates to follow).
