Laurie's Broken Neck Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Thanks for visiting our recovery fund page. This is Laurie's sister, Lynn, setting this up. Laurie crashed her motorcycle and broke her neck in two places last weekend. Actually, the word the doctor used was "shattered." She shattered her top two vertabrae, and it was too fragile of a situation to fuse them together. So, they use cables to put her spine in line, and she has to wear a halo brace (as pictured) for the next 3ish months in hopes that her bones regenerate and heal straight. If not, there will be more surgery, in which her vertabrae would need to be fused to her skull with a plate, greatly limiting her motion. SO, we're hopeful it heals well with the halo.

Thank you so much for your concern and well wishes. So many of you have helped with visits to the hospital, getting her bike to a shop, bringing her clothes and dinner, entertaining Vinny, taking care of her dogs, etc. It's SO appreciated.

Laurie's first month is a crucial time. She's limited in her activity. She's really good at doing the PT exercises they gave her, and she's staying with my mom, who can help care for her.

SO, the reasons we are setting up a recovery fund are numerous. For one, many people have asked how they could help, and a friend of mine suggested this. Second, Laurie will not be able to work for a bit. Luckily, there's good potential that her work will be something she can do, eventually, from home as she heals. But until then, she has no income...and still has bills. Third, Laurie was supposed to move this weekend. With no income, her deal with the new place fell through. Family and friends are moving her stuff out of her old place this week. And then, she's essentially homeless. So, she'll need money to be able to get a new place...when she's healthy enough for that. Fourth, while she has family and friends who care and help, she doesn't have family and friends who are made out of money. SO, as we care for her, we are spending money, too. So, I guess this fourth reason to raise money is to just help with the food, drink, medicine, and everyday things that she needs....and that Vinny needs. And finally, one more thing, she has two dogs that we've yet to find a place for. Likely, finding a place to take them temporarily or permanently will cost money.

SO, in response to everyone who has so compassionately asked what he/she can do to help. IF, and only if, you have even ten bucks to spare in effort to help our whole family as we help Laurie recover from this serious injury, we would be grateful if you could donate it through this website.

Thank you so much!
Lynn....and Laurie and the whole rest of the family
