Becoming a new parent is stressful and
overwhelming. You are handed things you
are not prepared to deal with; no time to yourself, no time as a couple, no
more than 3 hours of sleep. As many of
you know the list can go on and on. But
our friends, Ben and Anna, were handed the words no parent, anywhere, is ever
prepared to handle:
Your baby has cancer
After weeks of being told by countless doctors that Lucy was teething, high drama, just a fussy baby her mom refused to accept that nothing was wrong. Ben and Anna relentlessly pursued an answer to why their sweet, happy, 7 month old baby girl had stopped smiling, stopped eating, and stopped bearing weight on her legs.
The answer came late Thursday afternoon after an MRI revealed Lucy has a tumor wrapped around her spinal cord and neuroblastoma is trying to invade her tiny body. Just as her baby friends are beginning to sleep through the night, learning how to eat solid foods, crawl, and sit on their own Lucy is tasked with fighting for her life in a battle against cancer.
Lucy's prognosis is good but the battle will be long. She has already undergone three rounds of chemotherapy and has three more rounds to go before the tumor can be operated on and removed. The Barrett's are asking for their community to send prayers and well wishes her way.

Medical bills are the last thing on their mind at this emotional time. They feel so blessed to live close to one of the best Children's Oncology Clinics in the nation and fortunately have medical insurance that will cover 80% of her treatment. However cancer care is costly. We are setting up this site so friends, loved ones, and friends of friends who are touched by Lucy's story can help her receive the care she needs to fight this terrible disease.
