Support CAVBOTICS Team #8590

Hello, we are CAVBOTICS, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a new FIRST Robotics (FRC) Team from W.T. Woodson High School in Northern Virginia.

With this being our only second year participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition, we have extremely limited corporate connections for funding. Furthermore, the global pandemic has made hosting fundraisers and finding local sponsorships especially difficult. In the previous year, we were fortunate enough to have received the New Team Grant as well as generous contributions from parents to fund our registration and materials. However, those methods alone will not be sustainable for us.  In addition, one of our primary goals is to provide opportunities to all students, regardless of financial background, which is why we do not have any entry dues or fees. Therefore, to compete in the 2021-2022 and all future seasons, we really need your help.


W.T. Woodson High School Cybersecurity and Robotics consist of high school students, teachers, and mentors who share the goal of providing unique hands-on STEM opportunities for all students. Moreover, we strive to help students foster an enduring passion for STEM as well as develop creativity and problem-solving skills. In previous years, we have participated in the CyberPatriot Competition, a national cybersecurity competition hosted by the Air Force Association in which teams of 6 compete to secure their virtual operating systems. This year for Cyber Patriot, we ranked in the top 16 out of 4,800 teams overall, qualifying for national finals. 


The newest addition to our program is CAVBOTICS, or FIRST Robotics Team 8590. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual international competition in which teams of high school students, teachers, and mentors work during a rigorous six-week period to build robots capable of competing in that year’s game. Given last year's unique situation with the global pandemic, our goal was to successfully compete in the INFINITE RECHARGE At-Home Challenges while safely providing a fun and invigorating experience for students. Fortunately, we were able to build and compete the past season as well as learn many valuable lessons along the way. We are also extremely grateful that the FRC Community was welcoming to new members and was eager to provide us with the support and advice that helped us overcome many of the challenges faced by rookie teams. In the future, we hope to be able to build on our success and compete at District Championships and eventually World Championships as well, continuously growing our organization to provide more opportunities for students in STEM. 

Our organization has grown tremendously over the past two years. This year, our FRC team alone consists of over 50 passionate students. In the near future, we hope to expand our outreach to include events for local elementary and middle schools so that we can continue to inspire younger students in our community.
