Gabriels Fight Against Trisomy 18

For those of you that don't know , Edwards' Syndrome is a genetic condition also known as Trisomy 18 which means that a baby is born with three copies of chromosome 18 as opposed to two copies. This causes a severe disruption in the baby's normal course of development.

This condition that affects only one in up to 6000 live births and is considered rare and fatal. This can lead to a variety of problems, including heart . Gabriel's parents, Silvana and Steven , were told that 90% of these babies don’t survive to full term. Of the ones that do make it to full term, many only live for a few hours, days, or weeks. Very few make it past their 1st birthday.

At 9 weeks Gabriel was diagnosed with Edwards Syndrome .After receiving this devastating news Gabriel's battle began as he continued his fight. Despite a low chance of survival, His parents fought for his life and wanted to see their baby boy born so they would be able to meet him and give him the love he deserves.

At 27 weeks (6 months) Silvana was put on bed rest at the hospital in order to closely monitor Gabriel. The blood flow between the umbilical cord and him was limited not allowing proper nutrients in order for him to grow.

This past week Gabriel has been stable . As he has been closely monitored .
