Housing advocate needs housing and advocacy
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jessmynda. I need your support to stay housed with my dog Papo until we can find a long term housing solution.
A bit of background: I was evicted from my apartment on December 1st after months of being harassed by my landlord and former significant other who walked out on our lease two months after signing. Shortly after moving in together, I discovered that my partner was stealing money from me. When I confronted her about the issue, she left the apartment immediately and returned to take every piece of furniture, (including anything I could sit on like a mattress or a couch) food, and my debit card and driver license.
My adoptive parents initially offered to help me with everything from finding a new apartment, to furnishing it, to cosigning the lease in order to mitigate the negative impact of the eviction on my record. In reality, my parents (my mom, a university administrator and Dr. of School Psychology and adopted father a retired engineer) chose to help by moving my things into a storage unit and leaving me at a hotel near the Albany airport.
I only found out after they'd left to return to their own home that I would be without shelter for myself or my rescued dog Papo until I can get help from the Crime Victims Support services to relocate to permanent housing.
Given my experience of sexual assault by a staff member at Unity House, and the fact that my dog has special needs which would make a shelter stay impossible I'm BEGGING for your support in securing a hotel room, food for myself and the dog and transportation costs associated with travel to and from court, doctors appointments and apartment viewings.
The truth is, I'm asking more out of concern for my dog Papo than myself: I cannot in good conscience abandon him and quite frankly, he's the only family I have. My goal is to do whatever it takes to make sure our basic needs are met while we work on locating stable housing and returning to college.
Specific needs your donation will help meet (not a comprehensive list):
- Dog Food
- Dog Medicine (Papo has severe allergies and skin issues that require daily medication as a part of ongoing treatment)

- Replacing important documents: Debit card/ Driver License
- P.O. Box
