Nepal, Here I Come!

Everyone!
This November, I have volunteered for a program in Nepal, organized by International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ). IVHQ sends volunteers to Third World countries through a variety of programs, and I have written this letter hoping for your support. I have chosen to volunteer in an orphanage in Pokhara where I will be working with the kids every day and acting as an older sibling to them by teaching them how to be responsible in their daily decisions, showing them proper hygiene habits, and just having fun with them! I have a lot to teach them, and them me as well. Nepal is a Third World country, so it's going to be a real eye-opener when I see how the poverty affects the living conditions of these kids.
IVHQ does not provide funding to get to Nepal. IVHQ ensures that I make it to and from the airports, that I have a place to stay, and provides a guest center where I will be able to make calls to keep in contact with my friends and family to keep them updated. I calculated this trip out to cost me about $3000. Any extra money that I make I hope to donate to the orphanage to help them out a little more, because I know they need it more than I do. I've been working nonstop to take care of my initial costs, but I can't do it all on my own. If you believe in the work that I will be doing and you want to help me reach my goal I couldn't thank you enough for your support. Any amount, even as little as $1.00 will help me reach this goal.
I recently graduated Dutchess Community College as a documentary filmmaker. This opportunity to go to Nepal will allow me to further my craft in filming and photography. The trip will be fully documented - I plan on filming from the day I leave to the day I get back, and everything in between. From there, I plan on producing a documentary with all of the footage and I want to put together a portfolio of my best pictures from Nepal to really show people what everyday life is like in Nepal and then share it with you!
I will be staying with a host family that has experience in offering their home as a place to stay for volunteers and travelers. There is free time available to me on weekends when I plan on traveling and seeing as much as Nepal as I possible! I hope to hit the major cities of Nepal, climb the foothills of Mt. Everest and definitely go on a jungle safari or two at Chitwan National Park. I want to experience the culture in every way possible, so I'll be looking out for temples to visit, local markets for the food, festivals to go to, everything.
I'm so excited for this trip and I can't wait to share my experiences with everyone! It's scary and thrilling to think that I'm going to be gone for a month.
