Invest in Black Girls in STEM

Tax deductible
Hello! My name is Alma Garcia ... program leader for Black Girls Go Global ... a special initiative by Bright Light Volunteers to help black girls pursue career interests in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) fields.

Why is this program so important? Less than 2% of black women share this space. Why? Society does not draw an accurate, comprehensive image of scientists that inspire black girls. Images of a scientist are a nerdy man wearing a lab coat with bifocals as he conducts experiments in the lab. Pictures of Aristotle, Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, and Bill Nye the Science Guy solidify the accepted image of scientists. These portraits demonstrate that scientists are often depicted as white and male, whether in fiction ... or in real life. This image does not serve black girls ... and needs to change!

This summer Black Girls Go Global is taking 10 participants from Baltimore, MD and Sparta, GA on a S.T.E.A.M.-education experience in Brasilito, Costa Rica. They will spend seven (7) days learning about sustainable permaculture and wildlife biology.

A donation of any amount will invest in the education of a black girl who aspires to pursue a field in science, technology, engineering, arts or mathematics. Through this program, black girls will enrich their lives culturally and academically and become ready for a global workforce.

Thank you for considering Black Girls Go Global.
