My journey began on August 7th 2015, which happened to be the 22nd wedding anniversary for me and my wife Wendy. Unusual symptoms began presenting that evening including difficulty with handwriting, speech, and balance. Throughout the weekend an earache and continued speech difficulties led us to making an appointment with my doctor who then sent me for a MRI. The MRI showed a golf ball sized tumor in my brain. A CT scan eliminated concerns of cancer elsewhere in the body...with continued focus on my brain. I started taking Steroids to decrease the swelling and anti-seizure medicine. Next came surgery for a biopsy of the tumor. On August 20th, we received my diagnosis...a Grade 4 Glioblastoma.
Needless to say, this has been a life changing event for my family which includes my daughter Ariana(16) and my son Willem(15).
While this news has been crushing, we find ourselves surrounded by love, support of family and friends, and a fantastic medical team who will guide me through this medical journey...
All of this has been so unexpected. Any support is gratefully appreciated.
