Education

Friends, family, coaches and my forever tennis teammates – I am reaching out to you all for help. By a means of introduction my name is Lucas Freitas and I recently made the journey to play tennis in the states to earn my way to a college education – I am now a junior and a member of the tennis team at Middle Georgia State University. I was born in Brazil and raised by parents who unfortunately didn’t have the means to pay for my college education in the states, let alone for my father’s medical bills ever since he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. As one can imagine, tennis and a better education quickly became drivers of my motivation to give my family a better life. Everything I learned on the tennis court was thanks to my father’s determination and his love for the game. Ever since I moved to the states in 2016 everything my family earned went towards my father’s medical bills – it was tough but my family worked together to ensure my father received the proper treatment. Although I would have loved to return to Brazil to stand by him during this difficult time, I know I was pursuing his dreams by playing tennis and earning a college degree. My dream was that one day he was going to come see me play in America and attend my college graduation. In 2017, my father beat cancer against all odds because that’s the fighter he’s always been. My goal was to ease my family’s financial burden and help pay for my education this year. I worked hard this past summer to finically support my family and to make my father proud. However, as many of you know by now, I received a call from my mother on August 4th informing me that my father had suddenly passed away from a heart attack. We had planned to put my and my family’s earnings towards my education this year as we only needed to pay for one year of school tuition because I would then receive a scholarship through tennis afterwards. We were prepared to work as a family to find the means to do it – as we had previously done so many times before. As one would imagine, I had to see my father one last time so my close family  immediately spent some  earnings towards a flight home and on my beloved father’s memorial service. Now more than ever, I am determined to see my father’s dreams become a reality. I will continue to play tennis on his behalf and finish my education in the states so I can give my family everything they deserve – it is my time to sacrifice for them.
With my pride aside, I am reaching out to you all for help so I can respectfully be the man of the house for my mother and brother. Today, I ask that you help me get $5,000 to put towards my education for the upcoming semester (Fall 2017). Although I will continue to work hard to pay for my education this year, I will not be able to quickly get the $5,000 that I need for this semester. Please help me make my father proud and finish his dreams. I promise I won’t let you down.
My strength comes from your support. My dreams are of my father’s – I will make you proud.
