Hi, my name is Lee Ruble and I am 31
years old. I am currently doing chemo treatments to fight stage 3 ovarian
cancer. I was diagnosed on July 8th, 2013 when the pathology reports
came back positive from what was supposed to be just a cyst removal surgery. It
ended up being a total abdominal hysterectomy. I haven't been so lucky in the
good health department but this time I think it saved my life.
When I was 13 I had two metal rods placed along my spine to correct scoliosis. When they did the surgery they messed up the functions of my bladder. Ever since then I have had problems with frequent urination and that is what led to me to the doctors and what found the cyst on my ovaries. Many women don't know they have ovarian cancer until it's too late and for that I am grateful
It hasn't been an easy road, with the hysterectomy being my 15th surgery and all. I also know I need "at least" two more. I am still carrying a tumor in my spinal canal which hasn't been removed because the risks are high. They include losing motion and/or sensation to my right arm. I also need a hip replacement which I have needed since I was 18 but the costs are high and recovery long.
I am currently taking a leave from work which seems to happen about once a year. It makes it hard when the income is only a portion of normal and doesn't help cover anything. I can't pay the medical bills because I am struggling to pay the high costs of food and rent. I have been blessed with an amazing family and group of friends that help me with everything they can, but it's still not enough. Thank you for taking the time to read this, it truly means a lot!
