Sydney's Diabetes Alert Dog

My name is Sydney Groesbeck. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 6 months ago, at the age of 24. I'm hoping to start a Master's program in the fall, while in the midst of navigating a complete lifestyle transition. I'm hoping to adopt a diabetes alert dog in order to alert me to blood glucose highs and lows when I'm busy with work and school, but also to help me through the emotional challenges that come with a newly diagnosed autoimmune disease. As much as I want a canine companion, they do come at a fairly high cost. A diabetic alert dog is ADA certified to save a life, so they are expensive to adopt. There is a trainer in Utah that does it for a reduced cost, but it is still $3,000 plus weekly trainings and the typical costs of adopting a pet. I'm reaching out to family and friends, hoping that they might help me add a new member to our family. I'm really grateful for all the support you've given me so far with this hard transition.
