400 dog rescue efforts for Puerto Rico

Who could say no…

For all of us in Rescue, the dogs of Puerto Rico have long stayed in our hearts. After Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017, many rescue organizations including HALO went in and made a huge difference in the lives of thousands of stray dogs and cats.

Hundreds were brought to shelters and adopted out while sterilization clinics moved in spaying and neutering thousands in an endeavor to solve a huge island stray pet problem.

For those animals left behind the chance of getting a home filled with warmth, love, and daily food is grim. The island, still in recovery, simply has no homes for these dogs.

For Canita Sanctuary, a home to over 500 rescue dogs, the efforts have been exhausted to help keep them safe. It’s become apparent that we have to get the dogs out before the heat moves in, the storms come, and the place literally crumbles to the ground.

HALO is working together with The Coalition for Animal Rescue to bring 20 dogs to 20 rescue groups to clear the shelter.

With our new working relationship with the HSVB, we reached out to the new Director and they were also able to commit to 20 dogs. The rest are being taken by shelters all across the County as they make their journey to safety.

We are looking for donations to help with this huge rescue effort to assist in transport, sterilization, and medical care for dogs that have had no vet care for years.

My goal in a world of Miracles is to raise $40,000.

That’s a pledge of $100 per dog to help with their care.

If you cannot donate $100 please know that any amount will help and will be extended not just to HALO Rescue but for the entire effort. Also a simple share of our story will help!

Thank you for showing me over the years that I can reach for the stars and set no limitations on the power of Rescue. I have only been able to do that through your amazing support.

These dogs will start coming in the end of April/beginning of May and updates will be posted.
