Meet Reese:
Reese is a sweet, hilarious, caring and loving 3-year-old boy. At 20 months old, Reese was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. For Reese, this means that he experiences extreme tightness in his lower extremities (primarily hamstrings and ankles). He works very hard participating in many therapies; from aquatic therapy, physical therapy, NAPA Intensive Therapy, often getting botox and phenol injections in his legs to help with the stiffness. Reese has made very significant progress in his short lifetime. Even with this progress, we felt as though Reese and our family really needed a leg up, well actually 4. This led to various conversations with his medical team, support system, friends and family. Collectively it was determined that getting a Mobility Service Dog would greatly support our overall goal of Reese walking and gaining better independence in daily life tasks. At the end of December, we introduced Reese to his new best friend and service dog, Scooby. Scooby is a Great Dane, yes a Great Dane. Scooby will take on the responsibility of helping Reese gain his independence in moving through his day-to-day life. Taking on the responsibility of Scooby wasn't made lightly as he requires intense daily training, general care, and hefty financial responsibility. This process will cost more than 20,000 dollars and unfortunately, insurance and most grants don't cover service animals (we haven't given up though). We ask our friends, family and community to please help with our mission as we do everything in our ability to get Reese walking.
