4 LAURNA

Donation protected

Most of my friends are aware that Laurna, my daughter, was diagnosed three years ago with the rare genetic condition, pancreatitis PRSS1 mutation. After several consultations at hospitals across country, it has been agreed that Laurna will make a good candidate for a total pancreatectomy and islet auto cell transplantation. This involves removing the pancreas and  relocating her remaining healthy islet cells, ordinarily located within the pancreas, to her liver. This is life changing surgery and Following an extensive assessment, Laurna wishes to go ahead with the surgery.

The islet auto cell transplantation aspect of the surgery is not currently funded by the NHS so we are seeking to raise funds to help towards the surgery and travel expenses. Laurna will require a week in an Intensive Care Unit followed by 2-3 weeks on a hospital ward. Following this period, we will both need to stay close to the hospital in Newcastle for close monitoring before returning home. Laurna will need to return monthly for a period of one year for diabetic testing, whilst slowly reducing the insulin as her islets start working in the liver.

We are hoping to raise £20,000 in total, which will help cover the cost of the surgery and travel expense's.  Please help in anyway you can. Lets get Laurna back to being herself and pain free :-)
