Jelani and Leslie married on October 7, 2016. They were too excited to finally spend forever together. 4 months before their wedding they found out that they were pregnant with twins! They were overjoyed! Even though Hurricane Matthew tried to stall their wedding, they still walked down the aisle together, and celebrated with all their family and friends. On November 7th, one month after they were married is when everything changed. Leslie was rushed to MUSC due to preterm labor. Xavier and Elijah were only 22 (+6) weeks. The hospital let them know if she was to have them right then they wouldn't be able to intervene. But God. Leslie was on bed rest for almost 2 weeks and delivered Xavier and Elijah at 24 weeks on November 16, 2016. Xavier was 1.11lbs and Elijah 1.08lbs. They both thrived in the NICU, but Xavier developed chronic lung disease/BPD, and began to have complications with his lungs. He soon after had to have a tracheotomy to help him as his lungs matured. Both boys continued to grow and thrive. Even though Xavier struggled, he continued to fight hard. Leslie and Jelani stayed encouraged through God and by leaning on each other. I've never seen a stronger mother than Leslie. She's always so positive and pumped as much as she could to nourish and help them grow healthy. She'd visit the NICU everyday with a smile and excitement to see her babies. She even worked full time all the way up to one of the twins homecoming. Elijah came home in April after a long 5 months in the NICU. He came home with no monitors or oxygen. Just the Gtube. Look at God's miracle. But Xavier is still at MUSC battling in PICU, and hopefully will be home very soon. Leslie and Jelani have had their entire world turned upside down. Leslie isn't able to work due to Xavier's disability so it's a strain and stressful to have only one income coming in for a family of 4. Along with moving to a bigger place to fit Xavier's ventilator and equipment. Yet Leslie and Jelani stay encouraged and positive through God's grace. So let's help them out as much as we can so they can concentrate on getting Xavier home to his loving family and not about finances. All donations are welcome so please if you can please donate, and if you can't please keep this wonderful family in your thoughts and prayers.
