Let me introduce to you to sacrifice. Let me introduce you to love. Let me introduce you to two people who mean the world to me.
Our dad, Steve, was born with degenerative kidney disease. He's spent his lifetime slowly losing function little by little. We've arrived at the critical point of 15% function of a single kidney. As a result of his disease, he is exhausted and somehow still manages to work 40hours a week. He never complains. He continues to be present. He loves and laughs with his whole heart. He's our protector. A man our family needs.
Ashley is the youngest of 7 in a mixed family. She's independent. She's loyal and she's smart. She's nurturing and protective to her core. She's a loving partner, a wonderful sister and a doating auntie. But she's an amazing daughter. A daddy's girl through and through. In the ways that Dad is her best friend. She confides in him. Trusts in him. Keeps him in line, calling him out on his health. She pushes him and loves him with her whole heart.
About 2 years ago, dialysis and transplant became topics of conversation. A transplant will extend his life considerably. But more importantly it will improve his quality of life. He's been an active man his entire life. He hunts, fishes, camps. He takes care of his yard. He golfs. Transplantation through a donor is the best option for him.
In every conversation around a potential family donor, Ashley was the first to say she was going to do this. She did not waiver. So she started long and in depth testing process. It has meant time off work and travel costs. But it's been worth it. At every turn she was given a green light. After nearly a year, we now know. She's not only a match, she's the best match.
So the date has been set. The operating rooms are booked. Wednesday, August 23rd is the big day at UW Medical Center Seattle. Ashely will be donating a kidney to my dad. She will be selflessly giving the gift of life. And this is where our family, friends and community come in.
We are asking with open hearts for financial assistance to help reduce the out of pocket costs for the recovery. We have a goal set that will take the pressure off and allow the focus to be on recovery and not missed wages, travel, and time off work to recover.
