Jamie Marie Boyd Heart Surgery

Donation protected
During Sarah’s pregnancy Sarah and Javonta learned that Jamie had a heart defect called Tetraology of Fallot and Double Outlet Right Ventricle. This meant that Jamie’s pulmonary artery was smaller than it should be and not positioned correctly in her heart. She also had a Ventral Septial Defect (VSD) or a hole in her heart. Javonta and Sarah were told Jamie would need surgery soon after she was born. They began to see a pediatric cardiologist to have echocardiograms done on Jamie’s heart to monitor her condition.
Then on April 16th, 2017 at 5:57pm Jamie decided to make Easter Sunday her birthday day made her debut into the world. She was briefly held by Sarah then Javonta and was taken to the NICU for an echocardiogram. It was decided that Jamie would not have to be taken for surgery immediately. Jamie stayed in the NICU at Bryan East for four days and was then able to go home.
After six weeks and many doctor appointments it was decided that it was time for Jamie’s surgery. Jamie was admitted on June 2nd to Children’s Hospital in Omaha for her open heart surgery. Jamie’s surgeon was an amazing man named Dr. James Hammel. Dr. Hammel described her surgery as “repair double outlet right ventricle, tetralogy of fallout via sternotomy on cardiopulmonary bypass, trans esophageal echocardiogram during cardiac surgery”.
After five hours in surgery Javonta and Sarah were able to see Jamie. About two hours after Jamie was taken to the PICU she had to be re-intubated. This complication caused her recovery to last longer than expected. Jamie’s expected hospital stay went from four days to 12 days.
Jamie is home now and doing well. Jamie will need to have at least one more surgery during her life. She will also have to continue to see her pediatric cardiologist on a monthly basis and have routine echocardiograms to ensure her heart is still functioning correctly.
Due to the cost of medical services, deductibles, and out of pocket expenses, before Jamie was born in the calendar years 2016 and 2017, her surgery and her continued need for medical care in the future I have decided to create a Go Fund Me page to assist with the medical debt that Javonta and Sarah have incurred. We greatly appreciate your generosity and the love you are showing to the Boyd Family.
