Maisy's Hospital Fund

Maisy is a stray dog who showed up at our back door Wednesday morning, August 13th. Every bone in her body is visible, and when I gave her a cup of food, she ate it as fast as she could - which wasn't very fast. She could barely keep her eyes open or remain standing. My husband, Phil, and I rushed her to the vet, where it was discovered she was severely anemic due to hookworms and a horrible tick infestation. Had she not been reactive and eating, she would have been an automatic candidate for an emergency blood transfusion. Instead, our wonderful vet suggested keeping her for a few days to see if her red blood cell count would go up on its own with the help of a de-wormer, flea and tick killer, lots of good food, and fluids. He said this may take a few days before she's strong enough to come back to her new home with us.

No time is ever convenient for something like to happen, but there was no question that we'd help this sweet girl who never asked to be neglected the way she has been for probably her whole short life. However, we currently have 7 other dogs due to the fact that we live in the middle of nowhere by the county line - that magical place where people go to dump their unwanted, starving, abused dogs. We also have 4 kids who seem to eat constantly. We have trusted that the universe would provide for this beautiful girl, and would so appreciate any donations at all toward her hospital bill, which will exceed $300.
