Helping The Beattys

My name is Emily Lindamood and I am Gloria's daughter and David's stepdaughter. I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my family to help our parents out. We had a major medical emergency happen to David Wednesday evening and it's been a roller coaster ride since. David was taken to the hospital Wednesday, June 14th when he fell ill. From there everything spiraled downward. He was flown to Washington Hospital Center in D.C. when a CT scan showed that he was suffering from a brain hemorrhage. Upon arrival at Washington Hospital Center they had to place a drain in his skull to remove the fluid and then the worst news came. Another CT scan showed that he had a massive clot in his cerebellum located at the base of his brain where his spinal cord meets his brain stem. After much concern Gloria consented to a surgery to remove the clot. We were told it was very risky but could possibly give him a chance. She, and all of us felt he deserved this chance. His surgery occurred yesterday, June 15th and to our relief Dr. Mason was able to remove the clot. To our shock, David started to respond to commands, while being sedated, when the nurses and drs performed their neurological exercises. Today, he's continued to do well with those tests and is moving his arms and legs and has also begun opening his eyes and looking for family. Prayers are working! Even though David is making progress we are still told that it's going to be a day by day process and that he has a long road to recovery. He's currently in the ICU unit and we are unsure of how long he will be there before he's moved to another recovery unit. Our mother has been told to settle in for a long while and it could be weeks or months before we could see him home. Unfortunately with the long road ahead it will become costly for her to continue to see David daily or even every other day. This fundraiser is to ask for any support you could give to help with costs such as food, parking, gas, and other things our Mom and David might need to get through this very tough time. The hospital takes an hour to get to from home and is a tough drive. Anything you could help give to support David and Gloria during this time would be greatly appreciated.
