Attorney Retainer Fee

Everyone who knows me, knows I am not one to ask for help. However, I've recently realized that I don't really have any other option but to begin asking for help. As most of you know, my ex-husband left me and the kids back in February. Since then, I've spent what little money I've been able to save on negotiating a separation agreement. Last week, however, he filed a complaint and is taking me to court. Just to retain my attorney is a non-refundable $2000.00 fee. That is JUST to retain her and that amount does not get charged against to cover her time, court costs or anything else. Her time (charged at $200/hr) is in addition to that amount. He is fighting me on everything, so I know this is gonna become very costly. Everyone who knows my situation, knows I am struggling to get by month to month and there is no way I can come up with this amount of money on my own. I still cannot believe that it has really come to this and that he is willing to put the kids and I through this. I just never saw any of this coming. God has seen me through a lot in my life though and I know this will be no different. Thank you so much in advance for any help that you're able to provide. God bless!
