Mission Trip to Belize

Hello there friends and family,
Its me Theresa. I hope this little note finds you all well and in good spirits. I have a little news I wanted to share with you that I am so excited about.
Last year a Nun from the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth came to our parish to speak about a Lay Mission Program. Two months ago we were informed that our parish, St. Johns, is going to be building a home in Belize, Central America via the Sisters of Charity and Hand in Hand Ministries during the week of Jan 19, 2014. Twelve volunteers can be accepted to be part of this mission.
As you know I am a carpenter and thought this sounded like an awesome opportunity to put my skills to work for a good cause. However leaving my family for a 10 day period would be a bit of a burden for Bobby and the kids:. So I really had to think it over and talk to Bobby about it. I was thrilled when he seemed just as excited as me and said "Yes! Go! That would be awesome." So I proceeded to call the contact for the trip only to find I was the 4th alternate on the list. Although I was a tiny disappointed at not being able to go, I thought wow, St. Johns Parish had 12 people that volunteered that quickly? THAT is awesome. I was told by the organizer that I may want to get my passport anyway just in case and so I did.
Three weeks later I get the call! A couple decided they couldn't go which left two openings and then the 2nd and 3rd person on the alternate list was part of a couple and wanted to go together so they opted out which left me next in line! So I'm going to Belize. I have been told that construction there is very different from the way we do it here in the United States so it is possible to build an entire home in a week. The needy family we are building a home for will be working side by side with us, making friends, sharing faith and learning about each other's cultures. I have never had this kind of opportunity and would really like to DO this.
There is a small cost however; I have to get to Kentucky where the plane for Belize will depart from, and then its 1,700 dollars for the stay in Belize, which, considering its round-trip airfare, lodging and food, is not too bad. I need to raise this money by October 1st in order to be able to attend. I am humbly asking your help so that I can help others. If you can contribute to this cause I would be most appreciative.
I intend to keep a journal on the trip and take pics in between working.. : and I promise to share them! Please help me get there.
