Our 6yr old niece Abby, who has a heart of gold and a beautiful soul, was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. At the start of this year our lives changed for the worse when a CT scan confirmed a large tumor and fluid buildup in her brain. The result was a long surgery to remove the tumor & many sleepless nights while Abby recovered. We were relieved for her to finally come home but unfortunately it was short-lived as a week later, she had to undergo emergency surgery due to another fluid buildup on her brain. After yet another week in hospital, Abby had another surgery to insert a permanent drain in order to drain the fluid from her brain into her stomach.
Any parent would understand the stress and worry Gav and Katrina have been through. They had an anxious wait for the biopsy results as they had to be sent to a specialist in America and sadly the results show a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Abby is due to start radiation treatment in a weeks’ time, while her biopsy is being sent for further DNA molecular testing in Germany to assess suitability for any clinical trials.
Gav and Katrina have been by Abby’s side throughout this whole ordeal and have had to witness their little girl go through multiple brain surgeries and tests. They have a heart wrenching few weeks in front of them watching her bravely go through treatment and the future is unknown.
We have set up this page as Abby naturally wants her parents to continue to be able to be with her during this next phase. Trin & Gav have both had extensive time off work and had additional expenses in this time with hotel accommodation, meals, travel etc.
Anyone who knows them well would agree that they would be the first people to put their hands in their pockets if the situation were reversed. They would never ask for anything but perhaps we can all help to give them some time.
Any amount of money that you could spare can contribute to accommodation nearby the hospital or meals or to help cover everyday expenses whilst they are off work would be greatly appreciated.
Abby’s smile and gentle spirit is loved by anyone who has met her, please pray for our special little girl and her family and keep them in your thoughts. Family is everything!
