Joyful Heart Daycare Rehab Project

Community daycare serves a vital role in breaking the cycle of poverty that plagues many Mexican communities. With a day's work and a small fund raising effort, we can get the Joyful Heart Daycare in Tijuana back up and running, allowing families in the community to establish dual incomes and for single mothers to work full time.

The larger scale project to re-open the daycare is being managed by Education Project International. Project Ana is assisting in organizing and fundraising for the first stage of structural rehabilitation.

The first stage of work focuses primarily on the safety of the children. Currently, as you can see from the pictures below, the play space provided for the children is not safe.

Primary concerns to be addressed:

- Fencing to protect the children from falling over the steep embankment or wandering onto the street

- Provided shade from desert heat

- Clean up glass and trash throughout the play area

- Install gates on stairs

- General safety audit. The entire team will be asking "Would I let my child play here?"

- Minor indoor improvements (light switch covers, weather proofing, etc.)
