Virna's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
This past Mother's Day was difficult to say the least. The Friday before Mother's Day was the last day that we attempted to treat stomach symptoms that we were convinced could be relieved with over-the-counter medicine. We resigned to going to the ER after the symptoms worsened. Virna, my wife of 17 years, the love of my life, and the mother of my 3 beautiful children, had an upset stomach for a few days and we thought it was nothing more than a bad case of indigestion. To our shock and disbelief we were given a diagnosis that had not entered our minds. The doctors discovered an inoperable tumor blocking the colon. As a result, her intestines were extremely distended and she needed emergency surgery to relieve the painful pressure and to prevent the possibility of the intestines rupturing. After discussing our options with a team of surgeons, we agreed that the safest option was a colostomy. This however only addressed part of the problem- the mass was diagnosed as malignant with metastasis to the liver.

Every doctor that we've seen has given us a diagnosis of stage 4B colon cancer. After receiving a second opinion, she will begin an arduous and aggressive form of chemotherapy starting on June 22nd. We have been made aware of the life expectancy numbers, but have opted to not receive those numbers or report them here as they are grim -however, we remain in high spirits as we expect a positive outcome. As children of the almighty God, we are led by a different doctor, who has declared a different diagnosis, and his name is Jesus.

We are not facing this disease alone, or with fear, or with doubt, or with anguish, or with depression, or anything that would hinder recovery. We are at total peace, we have a peace that surpasses all understanding and that can only be credited to God.

Despite having medical benefits, treating cancer is very costly and can easily become a distraction that will take our focus off of recovery. Our income has changed with Virna being out of work while the expenses have rapidly piled up and drastically increased. Please join in helping our family cover the exorbitant cost of treatment and recovery. Your generosity and your prayers for our family will forever be appreciated. God Bless You
