PYP needs YOU (and an English Horn)!

It's true! We need your help to raise money in order to purchase a rare instrument for our oboe players: an ENGLISH HORN (see photo above - the English Horn is the baritone member of the oboe family).

The Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) is in its 90th season of FEARLESS artistry, ADVENTUROUS programming and EXCELLENT performances.

Our current English Horn is 53 years old (it's even starting to get mail from the AARP!) and needs to be replaced "“ we have battled with sticky keys and cracks in the wood, and all the wear and tear of frequent repair makes it harder to play.

Most young musicians do not own their own English Horn and it is therefore the responsibility of the Portland Youth Philharmonic to provide a high-quality instrument for use by its musicians. PYP musicians are deeply committed to their performances and we need to purchase an instrument that will allow them to fully express themselves.
